GNSS APPLICATIONS IN MILITARY OPERATIONS TRAINING COURSE

COURSE OVERVIEW

The GNSS Applications in Military Operations Training Course provides comprehensive practical knowledge of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), satellite positioning, geospatial information, digital mapping, navigation technology, and location-based data applications relevant to military, peacekeeping, security, emergency management, border management, disaster response, and field operations. The course introduces participants to GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, BeiDou, satellite positioning principles, coordinate reference systems, GNSS receivers, digital maps, GIS integration, positioning accuracy, geospatial data management, and field navigation. Participants will develop a strong understanding of how GNSS technology supports situational awareness, mobility planning, asset management, search and rescue, humanitarian operations, infrastructure mapping, and safe field movement.

The programme examines GNSS technology from both technical and operational perspectives, including satellite constellations, signal characteristics, positioning principles, coordinate systems, datum transformation, waypoint management, track recording, georeferencing, accuracy assessment, and GNSS data quality assurance. Participants will explore the integration of GNSS with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, digital elevation models, satellite imagery, mobile mapping, and geospatial databases. Practical exercises will demonstrate how location data can be collected, verified, visualized, documented, and incorporated into professional geospatial workflows while recognizing limitations caused by signal obstruction, atmospheric conditions, multipath effects, equipment limitations, and other sources of positioning uncertainty.

The training also covers GNSS resilience, navigation safety, data security, equipment management, interoperability, field data collection, geospatial communication, and continuity of operations. Participants will learn how to assess positioning quality, interpret coordinate information, maintain accurate geospatial records, integrate GNSS observations with GIS platforms, and communicate location information responsibly. Applications include peacekeeping support, humanitarian logistics, emergency response, search and rescue, disaster assessment, infrastructure inspection, environmental monitoring, border-area mapping, convoy and fleet administration, field-team coordination, and other lawful non-targeting applications where reliable positioning and geospatial information are required.

Through demonstrations, practical GNSS exercises, GIS laboratory activities, field-data simulations, coordinate conversion exercises, mapping assignments, case studies, and integrated geospatial projects, participants will develop practical competencies in satellite navigation and location intelligence. The course emphasizes responsible use of geospatial information, protection of sensitive location data, adherence to applicable laws and organizational policies, and recognition of GNSS limitations. By the end of the programme, participants will be able to understand GNSS positioning technologies, evaluate positioning quality, manage field coordinates and tracks, integrate GNSS data with GIS, produce professional geospatial outputs, and apply GNSS knowledge to appropriate military-support, peacekeeping, humanitarian, emergency-management, and security-sector information requirements.
