The Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Case Management Training Course is a comprehensive professional development programme designed to strengthen the knowledge, practical skills, ethical decision-making and institutional capacity of professionals responsible for identifying, assessing, documenting, referring and supporting survivors of gender-based violence. The course provides an integrated understanding of GBV case management, survivor-centred approaches, protection principles, confidentiality, informed consent, risk assessment, safety planning, psychosocial support and referral pathways. Participants will examine the different forms of GBV, including intimate partner violence, sexual violence, physical violence, emotional and psychological abuse, economic violence, harmful practices, exploitation and abuse, while developing practical approaches for responding appropriately to diverse survivor needs.
The training focuses on internationally recognized good practices in GBV response, including survivor-centred care, do-no-harm principles, confidentiality, non-discrimination, dignity, informed choice and accessibility. Participants will learn how to establish effective case management processes from first disclosure and intake through assessment, case planning, service coordination, follow-up, case closure and post-case support. The programme also addresses GBV risk assessment, safeguarding, child protection considerations, disability inclusion, gender-sensitive communication, trauma-informed approaches, psychosocial first-line support, emergency referrals and coordination among health, psychosocial, legal, protection and social service providers. Practical exercises and general case studies will enable participants to translate theory into effective GBV case management practice.
The course further develops institutional capabilities in GBV data management, case documentation, information sharing, referral systems, safeguarding and quality assurance. Participants will explore how organizations can strengthen standard operating procedures, referral networks, case conferencing, supervision, staff accountability and monitoring and evaluation while protecting survivor privacy and sensitive information. Special attention is given to handling complex and high-risk cases, managing disclosure, responding to immediate protection concerns, identifying barriers to accessing services and ensuring continuity of care. The programme is suitable for organizations seeking to improve gender-based violence prevention and response systems, strengthen safeguarding frameworks and enhance the quality, consistency and accountability of survivor support services.
Through facilitator-led presentations, practical exercises, role-play, group discussions, case analysis and web-based learning resources, participants will develop a structured and practical GBV case management workflow. By the end of the programme, participants should be able to apply survivor-centred case management principles, conduct appropriate intake and assessment, develop individualized case action plans, coordinate safe referrals, maintain ethical documentation, identify protection risks and contribute to coordinated GBV response mechanisms. The training is particularly relevant to humanitarian organizations, government agencies, NGOs, community-based organizations, health and social service institutions, protection actors and other organizations involved in GBV prevention, safeguarding and survivor assistance.
