Youth Leadership in Humanitarian Action Training Course

Course Overview

The Youth Leadership in Humanitarian Action Training Course is a comprehensive professional development program designed to strengthen the leadership capacity of young professionals, humanitarian practitioners, government officials, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), United Nations agencies, youth-led organizations, civil society organizations, community-based organizations, development partners, and humanitarian volunteers engaged in emergency preparedness, disaster response, peacebuilding, resilience, and sustainable development. The course equips participants with practical knowledge and advanced leadership skills in humanitarian leadership, youth engagement, disaster risk reduction, climate resilience, humanitarian coordination, project management, Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL), advocacy, conflict sensitivity, innovation, digital transformation, safeguarding, resource mobilization, volunteer management, policy development, and evidence-based humanitarian programming. Participants will develop the competencies required to lead inclusive humanitarian initiatives, strengthen community resilience, and empower youth as agents of positive social change.

Young people represent one of the most important drivers of humanitarian action, peacebuilding, community resilience, climate adaptation, disaster preparedness, and sustainable development. Increasingly, governments, humanitarian agencies, and development organizations recognize the critical role of youth leadership in responding to emergencies, addressing social inequalities, promoting innovation, supporting localization, and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This course introduces internationally recognized frameworks and standards including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), United Nations Youth Strategy, Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS), Sphere Humanitarian Standards, Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, Results-Based Management (RBM), Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus, Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) Agenda, Environmental and Social Safeguards (ESS), and principles of accountability, participation, inclusion, gender equality, and human rights. Participants learn practical approaches for integrating youth leadership into humanitarian operations while promoting innovation, resilience, accountability, and sustainable community development.

Throughout the course, participants gain practical experience in leadership development, humanitarian coordination, emergency preparedness planning, project design, proposal writing, digital communication, advocacy campaigns, community mobilization, conflict resolution, stakeholder engagement, volunteer coordination, innovation management, artificial intelligence applications, digital humanitarian tools, climate adaptation, fundraising, partnership development, organizational governance, and humanitarian monitoring systems. Practical exercises, leadership simulations, emergency response scenarios, group discussions, case studies, collaborative projects, field exercises, and real-world humanitarian examples strengthen participants' analytical, leadership, technical, coordination, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills while promoting inclusion, safeguarding, transparency, accountability, organizational learning, and resilience.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will possess the strategic, managerial, technical, and leadership competencies required to effectively lead humanitarian programs, coordinate multi-stakeholder partnerships, engage communities, strengthen organizational performance, mobilize resources, influence policy, manage emergencies, and promote sustainable development through youth-led humanitarian action. Organizations will benefit from strengthened leadership capacity, increased innovation, enhanced community participation, improved program effectiveness, stronger donor confidence, greater institutional resilience, and sustainable humanitarian impact.
