Course Overview

The Youth Engagement in Humanitarian Action Training Course is designed to equip humanitarian professionals, youth leaders, government institutions, non-governmental organizations, development practitioners, United Nations agencies, and community-based organizations with the knowledge and practical skills required to meaningfully engage young people in humanitarian preparedness, emergency response, disaster risk reduction, recovery, peacebuilding, and resilience-building initiatives. Young people are among the most affected by humanitarian crises, yet they are also powerful agents of change capable of driving innovation, community mobilization, digital transformation, climate action, and sustainable recovery. This course provides participants with practical approaches for integrating youth leadership, participation, and empowerment into humanitarian programming while aligning with international humanitarian principles, youth development frameworks, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Participants will gain practical competencies in youth-centered humanitarian programming, participatory needs assessments, youth leadership development, volunteer management, community engagement, social inclusion, safeguarding, accountability to affected populations, youth advocacy, policy development, and partnership building. The training emphasizes meaningful youth participation throughout the humanitarian programme cycle, including emergency preparedness, disaster response, protection, education, livelihoods, health, mental health and psychosocial support, climate resilience, peacebuilding, and social cohesion.
